Details on Becoming a New or Renewing Member & What to Expect
If you have not renewed your membership or visited Heronswood in a while, we thought it beneficial to provide detailed information about the recent improvements to our membership program and process. Over the last two years we have been busy enhancing the garden and implementing a system and process upgrade for new and renewing members, and we’d like to share some key information with you!
In-Person
New and renewing members can purchase memberships in-person at our Ticketing Office that are now activated instantly.
You may remember that our old way required hand processing and took up to 2 weeks to complete, so we are very pleased with this improvement and so are our members! Membership card(s) are printed for you right then and there. Each membership card has a barcode unique to your membership and a box that gets checked when your free member plant is chosen. When you visit the garden, you can show us your card or tell us your name and we can look you up in our new system and get you checked in for your visit. Some folks take a picture of their card and save it in their photo favorites for quick access. In the future, we hope to move to a fully digital membership card.
Note: We no longer mail out your welcome packet, so look to your email instead. We’ll explain what to expect below.
Online
You can also purchase your renewal or a new membership online. For renewals, click “Sign in” in the upper right-hand corner of our website (if you’ve already established your credentials) and renew right there in your dashboard under “Membership”. You will see your current or most recent membership and can hit the red “Renew” button to checkout. If it has been a while since you’ve had membership with us or if you want to buy membership at a new level, just go directly to the “Help Heronswood” or “Shop” pages via our website’s menu bar. Select your desired membership level, add to cart, and click on the little shopping cart icon in the right side of the website toolbar to complete your purchase.
For renewing members: Once you have established your sign-in/login credentials, it is most efficient to renew in your dashboard each year. If it has been a while since you last renewed, you should simply buy a membership in “Shop” or “Help Heronswood”. This will trigger an email invitation to establish login credentials to your own Heronswood dashboard. Tip: Use the same email address so you ensure all your Heronswood activity is under the same account. Your dashboard will begin to reflect your years of history with us. Having portal access allows you to see all your transaction history with Heronswood, check on your membership, easily renew your membership, get discounts on classes, and more.
Memberships purchased or renewed online are also instantly activated. Your membership card(s) will be printed at your following visit to the garden. Just let them know you need your cards when checking in at the Ticketing Office.
Snail Mail
If in-person or website purchases are not convenient or your preference, you are still welcome to mail in a check to the Port Gamble S’Klallam Foundation (Mailing Address: 31912 Little Boston Rd NE, Kingston WA 98346) or call and pay over the phone at (360) 297-9621. This route still requires hand processing and can take 5-10 business days to complete. You will still receive your welcome packet via email, as we generally no longer mail out welcome packets and membership cards.
Once your membership is activated, you will receive three emails
Emails are now required for maximum membership benefit access
Email 1: Your welcome letter thanking you for your membership purchase that includes a link to register for your digital subscription of Better Homes and Gardens magazine.
Email 2: A prompt for you to create your own Heronswood login, which allows you to see all your transactional history with Heronswood, including receipts, classes attended, membership subscription history, and more. IMPORTANT: Logging in is now the only way to access discounts on classes! When logged in to register for a class, you will see the discounted class price automatically in your cart.
Email 3: A copy of your paid invoice, for purchase verification and for your records.
Some additional members program highlights
Friends Membership level and above now allows 1, 2, 3, or 4 guests per visit to the garden, respectively. This means at the Friends level, one guest can accompany the cardholder(s) per visit, two guests per visit for the Enthusiast level, three guests per visit at the Sponsor level, and four guests per visit at the Patron level! At the Enthusiast level and above, cardholders are allowed free entry to two of our most popular events, Haunted Heronswood in October and Holiday Wreathmaking in November. Lastly, a quick mention on giving the gift of Heronswood membership
The way to gift membership now is to buy a gift card for the amount of the membership level you are wanting to gift to your friend, colleague, or family member. You can purchase a gift card on our website on our “Shop” page, or you can buy in-person at the Ticketing Office here at Heronswood. You can gift the recipient the card, or the email verification with the gift card code, and they can use it to purchase membership online or in-person.
