I’d like to thank you personally for an absolutely wonderful first year at Heronswood! I can’t imagine a garden that is a better fit to my interests and passions. With your help, we will finish the open season with record attendance and more development and expansion than ever before. This was the first year that Heronswood was open five days a week (Wednesday-Sunday) and it was a resounding success. Last year, in the midst of COVID-related closures and staff reductions, I spent a lot of time working in the garden and I have never seen one better designed for winter pleasure. With numerous winter-blooming plants and masterfully-designed vignettes of winter color and texture, I thought it was a shame that the public couldn’t see its end-of-year beauty. Well this year will be different! Heronswood Garden will be open Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM – 3 PM through the winter months, starting November 6th. We will be closed Thanksgiving weekend (Nov. 27-28), Christmas weekend (Dec. 25-26) and New Year’s (Jan. 01-02). And don’t miss this weekend, the last open weekend of the summer season. We’ll be closed over Halloween, before reopening Saturday November 6th.

The opportunity to be open during the winter will also allow visitors to observe our seasonal maintenance regime. For all of you who wonder how we keep our begonias and tree ferns safe despite the cold, you’ll see the magic in action. The garden is a perfect place for a winter stroll, where you’re never far from your car or shelter should our infamous weather turn bad. Autumn through spring is our construction season and you’ll see a major expansion of the Rock Garden as well as continued development of the Traveler’s Garden. We are also keeping the Tribal Tales in the landscape through Thanksgiving, so if you haven’t seen these remarkable works of art and story, you still have a chance to enjoy them. I will be working half of the open weekend days this winter and I can’t wait to see you here in the garden. Thank you again for a wonderful year and for visiting and allowing us to share the splendor of Heronswood Garden.
